Summary
Newspapers sensationalize the Brixton mystery, prompting Holmes to mock the police's inevitable self-praise. Detective Gregson visits, boasting he solved the case by tracing the victim’s hat and arresting the landlady’s son, Arthur Charpentier, for murder. Holmes remains skeptical of this conclusion.
