Summary
Richard Diamond is summoned to the 5th Precinct for a licensing exam, where he discovers rival detective Pat Romero murdered in the basement. After being assaulted by a man in patent leather shoes, Diamond investigates and identifies the killer as gambler Amos Fletcher. Using a clever ruse involving a fake tip, Diamond lures Fletcher to his office, where he is shot and wounded. The episode concludes with Diamond forcing his friend, Lieutenant Levinson, to complete his own failed exam for him.
