Peter Stuyvesant
Summary
This episode opens with a humorous exchange with Graham Birch, the mayor of Sandhurst, who challenges London mayor Sadiq Khan to a charity boxing match. The hosts then transition to a detailed historical deep dive into the Dutch origins of New York, covering the 80 Years War, the establishment of New Amsterdam, and the disastrous tenure of Governor Willem Kieft. The narrative culminates in the arrival of Peter Stuyvesant, a one-legged West India Company official, who replaces Kieft and imposes strict, tyrannical rule on the colony.
